Freshers' week

DO’s and DON’Ts for fresher’s week

  • Attend all your course enrollment program. This is very crucial, try your best not to party too much and forget about attending them, during this program important information about your course is disclosed (you really don’t want to miss it!!!). You meet people who are on your course (best opportunity for making life time friends or just normal friends). For people doing joint honor courses your university will tell you which programs are compulsory for you to go to during enrolment.

  • During the fresher’s week, there will be loads of stands and also lots and lots of flyers (ones you’ll find useful and ones you won’t even need), get flyers you only need! When I say there will be lots and lots of flyers, trust me there will be. But get the ones you know you will need, and if you couldn’t get a flyer don’t worry during the university term another welcome week will be done.

  • Joining societies: Do not rush!! One thing about university society is there’s no deadline for members (you can join at any time), all you have to do is apply for membership and pay the member fee (it’s a small fee). During the fresher’s week you will be tempted to join every societies there is, but don’t make them sway you into rushing. Allow minimum of 1 weeks of studies before joining societies, this is because the schedule of the societies you joined might not align with your timetable and wasting money on membership or something you don’t have time for can be sad.

Because you’re still getting that exciting rush about being in uni, most decision you will be making in the first week will be clouded. Do not rush into making any decision, try to calm down. Make decision when you’ve settled in, gotten used to the new life style.

  • GO OUT!!! I can’t emphasis how much this matters a lot. The fresher’s week is when you have one week to party without a stop. Meeting new people, getting drunk etc. Buy freshers wristband (well, if it’s not too expensive), if you find the student union wristband too expensive, there are lots of cheaper wristbands you could get. However, if there’s an event you can only get into using student union wristbands, you can always pay at the door (so you’re not missing out).

  • For students who are not into partying, there are lots of activities you could enjoy such as; touring (cause you just moved away from home, the location might be weird for you, try and use your free time to get to know your new environment), game night with your new friends( it’s a good bonding time), movies and loads more.
